Public and Private investments in recycling initiatives leading the way in building a circular economy.

This map captures investments made since the founding of the Renew Michigan Fund, which has supported many of these projects through the State's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Infrastructure and Market Development Grants.

The pie charts on the right represent the projects shown on the map. Additional projects have been completed or are underway across the state but are not included for privacy reasons. Together, this view shows how investments align with disadvantaged communities in Michigan. Definitions for Focus areas

  • Processing & End Markets – projects focused on the separation, reprocessing, and reuse of waste organic material and materials collected for recycling.

  • Recycling/Organics Collection – projects focused on the collection of organic material, or commonly recycled materials such as paper, cardboard, bottles, aluminum, etc. or hard-to-recycle materials. Includes the development of drop-off centers.

  • Support Services – projects focused on the development of communication and education programs, research and development, and program planning which support the development of recycling systems.

  • Other – projects outside the category definitions listed above.
